If you will be spending your upcoming vacation in the islands of Hawaii then you probably want to bring home souvenirs that will always remind you of your tropical getaway. However, one souvenir that you won’t want to bring back home with you is a nasty case of sunburn. Since Hawaii is very close to the equator, it is inevitable that you will be getting plenty of sun. Here are some ways to make sure you avoid sunburn.

    * The most important thing you need to remember is to wear sunscreen with a high SPF or sun protection factor. If you are used to wearing a sunscreen with SPF 15 at home, the Hawaiian sun will require you to wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30. If you have fair skin that easily burns, you might even have to wear something higher than SPF 50.
* Protect your lips as well. Your face and body are not the only ones that protection from the sun’s harsh rays. You might also want to wear lip balm that has sunscreen in it. Too much exposure to the sun can rob your lips of moisture and cause them to dry out.
* Even if you are wearing sunscreen already, you might still want to wear a hat with a wide rim to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun.

If you’re like most people who are planning to take a vacation in Hawaii then you are probably thinking that the getaway will cost a fortune. Even though it’s true that vacationing in Hawaii is generally expensive, there are several things you can do to make sure that you have a luxurious vacation without going overboard on your budget. For instance, accommodation is one of the aspects of your trip that will surely take up most of your expenses.

One thing you can do to save is to stay in a condo instead of the usual hotel. For instance, in the northern part of Kauai, there is a popular condo community where accommodation runs about $300 per night. This is much lower than the price per night in most of the luxurious hotels. To make the most of your stay in a condo, try to select a room that has fantastic view of the ocean.

A condo is also better than the hotel because it gives you more space. This can be a great advantage if you are traveling with your family. Instead of deciding between paying for another room for your kids or getting crowded in one room, you can enjoy spacious accommodation when you stay in a condo.

If you are currently packing for your trip to Hawaii then you probably want to make sure that you have packed everything you need. After all, nothing can be as frustrating as arriving on the island and finding out that you left behind some items that you need for your vacation. Clothes, shoes and travel documents may make it into your luggage, but what about these accessories and cosmetics that you also need?

    * Sunglasses. Since you will spend most of the daytime outdoors and under the sun, you don’t want to leave behind your favorite pair of sunglasses. Pack more than one pair so you can coordinate with your outfit.
* Sunscreen with a high SPF. Needless to say, the sun rays are exceptionally strong on the Hawaiian islands, so if you’re used to wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 15, you might want to go as high as 30 or 45.
* Flip-flops. No other type of footwear can serve you better in Hawaii than a good old pair of flip-flops. Whether you’re exploring the shore or lying back beside the pool, flip-flops will keep you comfortable and water-ready.
* Beach bag. A beach bag is another essential item that you should be sure to bring to Hawaii. Bring a waterproof or water-resistant bag with lots of room for your towels, sunscreen, swimsuit cover-up, snacks and other things you need for a day at the beach. You can also bring this bag along sightseeing trips.

If you have an upcoming Hawaii vacation then you are probably giddy with excitement over all the sights that you will see and activities you will do. One of the most important ingredients of a fun Hawaiian vacation is packing the right stuff. Imagine how anxious and stressed out you will be if you find out that you brought all the wrong things to your getaway. Here are some tips to keep in mind when packing for Hawaii:

    * Bring plenty of casual daytime clothes. Most of your sightseeing will be done during the day so make sure you have plenty of cool and comfortable daytime clothes. T-shirts, shorts and tank tops are good options.
* Unless you are attending a red-carpet event or a fancy dinner party, evening wear in Hawaii does not need to be fussy. Men usually wear khaki pants and button-down shirts while women can wear anything from a nice summer dress to a fashionable pair of shorts. To be sure, try to make your reservations before you head to Hawaii so you can know the dress code beforehand.
* Along with your swimsuits, it’s also imperative that your bring a cover-up for when you are going places other than the beach, such as going to the hotel lobby or shopping from the stores. A sarong, shorts or a light t-shirt are all good cover-ups.

If you and your companions are planning to go on a helicopter tour during your vacation in Hawaii
then there are several things you need to keep in mind to make sure that your tour becomes as safe and
enjoyable as possible.
To make sure that you see the sights in the best light possible, try to schedule your helicopter tour around
noon—either in the early afternoon or late morning is ideal. During the day of the tour, be sure that you
know and follow all the safety precautions. If you are not sure about something, don’t hesitate to ask your
tour guide.
If you tend to get motion sickness, you might also want to take your medication before the trip. Ginger
tea and other ginger products are also good to pack because they can help relieve dizziness and other
symptoms of motion sickness.
Even though you should definitely take pictures of the sights, it’s not a good idea to spend the entire trip
looking through the lens of your camera. You will always be able to look at your pictures when you get
back home but seeing the sights right in front of your eyes can only happen during the moment of the ride.

One of the things that tourists must never miss out on when visiting Hawaii is a helicopter tour. Even though you can explore a lot of places in Hawaii on foot, much of the terrain of this island can be inaccessible. In many cases, the only way to see these hidden waterfalls, volcanic craters, cliffs and other amazing geographical features is to get a good bird’s eye view. Here are some tips when it comes to choosing a Hawaiian helicopter tour.

The most important thing about choosing a helicopter tour is to make sure that your tour is safe. You don’t want your exhilarating ride in the sky to end up in tragedy. What you can do is to narrow down your choices by looking for helicopter services that features FAA Part 135 Air Carrier certification.

Before you purchase a tour, you might also want to check the seating arrangements. You don’t want to pay good money for your helicopter ride only to find out when you take off that you can barely see the sights.

Hawaii Island Local Customs to Learn

Whether you are going to Hawaii for your honeymoon or to unwind with your loved ones, there are certain local customs that you might want to study up on in order to make your vacation in the island much more comfortable. Learning about the customs will also help you interact with locals better.

Hawaii is particularly proud of its environment and will do anything to protect its natural surroundings. This is why tourists are often prohibited from bringing any type of wildlife in the island. Refrain from bringing any type of plants, fruits or flowers to Hawaii as these might affect the local environment.

When visiting Hawaii, one of the things that you must be sure not to miss out on is seeing the marine animals that are abundant in Hawaii. Examples of these creatures are humpback whales, sea turtles and monk seals. Viewing these magnificent creatures come with a set of strict guidelines so be sure that you follow them to the T. You don’t want to be the foolish tourist who got too close to the creature, endangering both yourself and the creature.

A lot of tourists in Hawaii are tempted to bring home lava rocks as souvenirs but you might want to decide against this. Not only is this bad for the environment (if every tourist took a lava rock home, where would Hawaii eventually stand on?) but there is also a superstition that states anyone taking a lava rock will experience bad luck. And there have actually been cases where tourists sent their lava rocks back to Hawaii! Better be safe than sorry.

If you are like everyone else, you are looking for cheap flights to Hawaii, right? Millions of tourists like you flock to the Aloha state to take in the best surf, underwater adventures and the most romantic getaway in the Pacific!

It’s true, the Hawaiian Islands are far away from anywhere – but that’s part of their unspoiled charm. They’re over 4,000 miles away from Japan, 5,000 miles away from China, and 2,400 miles away from the mainland. It takes between 5 to 10.5 hours to fly to Honolulu from the domestic cities in the U.S.

While several airlines fly daily to Honolulu and some directly to Maui, the constant demand for air tickets make finding cheap flights no easy task. Further, a vacation in this tropical paradise sounds good just about any time of year – but, of course, is more tempting during the winter break. Whether you want to celebrate the New Year in style or simply escape the cold outside your door, you should know that this is the Hawaiian peak season, when the flights cost the most.

Regardless of when you decide to come, a tropical escape can be really expensive, so you must really find a good deal. The plane tickets are the biggest chunk of your vacation budget and if you can keep the cost of travel down, you’ll be ahead of the game!

Here are four tips that help you save a lot:

1. Find Cheap Flights to Hawaii for the Off-peak Season

The best time to find good Hawaii travel deals is during the off-peak season, which falls during the spring and fall months. Fares drop after mid-April until mid-June and then again from September till around mid-December. But keep in mind, the islands become very busy with Japanese visitors during the last week of April – the “Golden Week”, a long stretch of Japanese national holidays.

2. Get Cheap Flights to Hawaii When You Book in Advance

If you know you will be traveling 2-3 months down the road, book your flight now, you will save a lot! Why? Because airlines want to sell seats as soon as a flight goes on sale. However, if you’re booking at the last minute, there are still some things you can do that will help put dollars back into your pocket. For example, rather than flying into a major airport, consider using a smaller airport instead. Flights from and to smaller airports are much cheaper than those that leave from and arrive at larger international airports.

3. Find Cheap Flights to Hawaii When You Fly During the Week

If you book your ticket on a weekday instead of the weekend, your ticket will be cheaper. Leaving on a weekday may be tricky if you have a full-time job, but if you can get away from work, it would certainly be worth your while.

4. Get Cheap Flights to Hawaii with Vacation Packages

This is one of the best ways to get cheaply priced airfares. Bundle air, accommodation and car rental together for a substantial discount. For example, Hawaiian Airlines, Hawaii’s own airline, offers various pre-packaged Hawaiian holidays – or, you can build your own.

You will love flying with this airline! Hawaiian Air services 20 domestic and international destinations and its cabin service, which is imbued with Aloha hospitality, consistently wins top ratings from Condé Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure, two of the biggest travel magazines.

Planning a holiday so far away from home can be stressful and shopping for cheap flights to Hawaii is no exception. But if you take advantage of these four tips, you will be able to find cheap airline tickets to Hawaii to fit your vacation budget.

If you are going to an exotic destination like Hawaii then you might want to do a bit of research before you leave. Reading up on Hawaiian culture will make your stay much easier and much more meaningful. It will also help you avoid various embarrassing or confusing situations. Here are some basic etiquette tips when visiting Hawaii.

One of the best things you can do before flying to Hawaii would be to study a few basic and commonly used words such as greetings. For instance, the word “mahalo” is used when you want to say “thank you”. Of course, you should also use “aloha”, which is the Hawaiian greeting for both “hello” and “goodbye”. However, refrain from trying to speak the language as your accent can be taken as offensive to locals.

It is also the custom of locals to greet guests with the flower lei. Naturally, you must always accept the flower as a sign of respect. Removing the lei in the presence of the person who gave it to you can be misconstrued as disrespectful.

If you’ve decided to rent a car in order to see the sights and you’re driving along the road, it’s better to let local drivers get ahead of you. This is because local drivers are extremely familiar with the way so they are likely to drive with more speed than you.

As a PI, eventually you’ll be hired for a case that traverses state lines. When that happens, while you may be qualified and permitted to carry in your state, you may not be allowed to carry in other states your cases take you to.

The first thing you will need to understand is a bit of legal jargon, the difference between the terms “shall issue” and “may issue.” “Shall issue” simply means that issuing officials need to have a good reason in order to deny a permit. Otherwise, you are issued the conceal and carry permit by simply going through the application process and meeting the state requirements. Thirty-nine of the fifty states have the “shall issue” law.

“May issue” laws require that the applicant show a need to carry a concealed weapon which leaves things pretty arbitrarily open to come up with reasons to deny permits. That is indeed what happens in those states.

Two states (Wisconsin and Illinois) don’t allow any kind of permit to carry for someone who is not a law enforcement officer. I suppose to counter that backward thinking, two other states (Alaska and Vermont) allow anyone over the age of 16 and 21 respectively who is not a felon, to carry a weapon without any kind of permit. Of the “may issue” states, Maryland rarely issues permits, while Hawaii never issues them. Now that you have some background on which states allow what in terms of permitting CCW, now lets discuss where you can travel with your weapon without being accosted by local authorities.

The answer is, it depends on which state you live in and received your permit from. The Mountain West and Southern States are all pretty lenient with each other. For the western, mid-western and north eastern states, it’s pretty much a crap shoot. I like to use the reciprocity map at http://handgunlaw.us to let me know where I can bring my weapon before I travel. If I’m just driving through a state, I like to refer to my copy of the “Guide To The Interstate Transportation of Firearms.” on the NRA-ILA website.

Just because a state will allow you to carry a loaded firearm into their state while driving through doesn’t mean that the city you’re driving through doesn’t have laws against it. Crazy, I know, but you will need to brush up on the requirements for any city you plan to drive through. And certain states will allow some firearms but not others. You know, it’s kind of like needing to get a Trip Tic from AAA before traveling. Find out what you need to know before you go and you’ll avoid trouble.

If you are flying, the FAA has rules about firearms on a commercial aircraft (no issues on a small aircraft unless it’s a charter). You may not carry a loaded weapon in the cabin with you. Rather, you must place it in your checked baggage unloaded, and you must tell the security folks who are scanning your luggage BEFORE they scan your suitcase and throw you up against the wall spread-eagle.

There is a movement afoot (which I hope continues to grow) to create a standard federal law that will take it out of the hands of the states entirely and allow conceal and carry just for the asking and cause all states to be reciprocal with one another. The current laws make it confusing to go from state to state and municipality to municipality. Citizens have the right to arm and protect themselves and it seems foolish to keep weapons out of the hands of law-abiding citizens when criminals apparently have such easy access. Already, with the number of states allowing CCW, violent crime is down. Let’s hope that trend continues.
