Going to Hawaii on vacation – can anyone recommend a good scuba dive location?

We will have three days to dive and will be arriving in Honolulu. We will travel to another island if the diving is better.

Need to know the best dive sites and if possible the name of a good scuba shop and place to stay.

I'm single and don't really have anyone I'd like to take along. What are the pros and cons? Note: I am 31 and have done a fair bit of travel. Please do not give me safety warnings, I know how to be safe while traveling, thanks for your concern. Just let me know if there is something out-of-the-ordinary about travel to Hawaii (more…)

Car Rentals and Other Budget Tips in Hawaii

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

If you’re like most people then your budget probably plays a big part when it comes to planning your vacation. A trip to Hawaii is no exception. If you’re heading to Hawaii for a getaway but you don’t exactly have unlimited funds then this doesn’t mean that your fun also needs to be limited. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your Hawaiian getaway on a budget.

Breakfast buffets may seem like a good and affordable idea to enjoy your morning meals but watch what you’re paying for these eat-all-you-can affairs. Some buffets cost as much as $30 per head so you can imagine how much this will set you back for your entire stay. Instead, look for cheaper eating options.

Car rentals are the most common way of getting around the Hawaiian islands but this doesn’t mean that you have to splurge on the latest automobile model so you can drive around in style. Instead, rent an economy car that fits the number of people in your group. A no-nonsense good-condition car should be enough to get you from point A to point B.

Lastly, once you have your rented car, learn to do your own parking instead of counting on valet service that can cost you extra fees.
