Sightseeing in Hawaii Through a Helicopter Tour

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

If you and your companions are planning to go on a helicopter tour during your vacation in Hawaii
then there are several things you need to keep in mind to make sure that your tour becomes as safe and
enjoyable as possible.
To make sure that you see the sights in the best light possible, try to schedule your helicopter tour around
noon—either in the early afternoon or late morning is ideal. During the day of the tour, be sure that you
know and follow all the safety precautions. If you are not sure about something, don’t hesitate to ask your
tour guide.
If you tend to get motion sickness, you might also want to take your medication before the trip. Ginger
tea and other ginger products are also good to pack because they can help relieve dizziness and other
symptoms of motion sickness.
Even though you should definitely take pictures of the sights, it’s not a good idea to spend the entire trip
looking through the lens of your camera. You will always be able to look at your pictures when you get
back home but seeing the sights right in front of your eyes can only happen during the moment of the ride.

Things to Do in Hawaii: Take a Helicopter Ride

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

One of the things that tourists must never miss out on when visiting Hawaii is a helicopter tour. Even though you can explore a lot of places in Hawaii on foot, much of the terrain of this island can be inaccessible. In many cases, the only way to see these hidden waterfalls, volcanic craters, cliffs and other amazing geographical features is to get a good bird’s eye view. Here are some tips when it comes to choosing a Hawaiian helicopter tour.

The most important thing about choosing a helicopter tour is to make sure that your tour is safe. You don’t want your exhilarating ride in the sky to end up in tragedy. What you can do is to narrow down your choices by looking for helicopter services that features FAA Part 135 Air Carrier certification.

Before you purchase a tour, you might also want to check the seating arrangements. You don’t want to pay good money for your helicopter ride only to find out when you take off that you can barely see the sights.

Hawaii Island Local Customs to Learn

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Whether you are going to Hawaii for your honeymoon or to unwind with your loved ones, there are certain local customs that you might want to study up on in order to make your vacation in the island much more comfortable. Learning about the customs will also help you interact with locals better.

Hawaii is particularly proud of its environment and will do anything to protect its natural surroundings. This is why tourists are often prohibited from bringing any type of wildlife in the island. Refrain from bringing any type of plants, fruits or flowers to Hawaii as these might affect the local environment.

When visiting Hawaii, one of the things that you must be sure not to miss out on is seeing the marine animals that are abundant in Hawaii. Examples of these creatures are humpback whales, sea turtles and monk seals. Viewing these magnificent creatures come with a set of strict guidelines so be sure that you follow them to the T. You don’t want to be the foolish tourist who got too close to the creature, endangering both yourself and the creature.

A lot of tourists in Hawaii are tempted to bring home lava rocks as souvenirs but you might want to decide against this. Not only is this bad for the environment (if every tourist took a lava rock home, where would Hawaii eventually stand on?) but there is also a superstition that states anyone taking a lava rock will experience bad luck. And there have actually been cases where tourists sent their lava rocks back to Hawaii! Better be safe than sorry.

Manners Advice When Visiting in Hawaii

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

If you are going to an exotic destination like Hawaii then you might want to do a bit of research before you leave. Reading up on Hawaiian culture will make your stay much easier and much more meaningful. It will also help you avoid various embarrassing or confusing situations. Here are some basic etiquette tips when visiting Hawaii.

One of the best things you can do before flying to Hawaii would be to study a few basic and commonly used words such as greetings. For instance, the word “mahalo” is used when you want to say “thank you”. Of course, you should also use “aloha”, which is the Hawaiian greeting for both “hello” and “goodbye”. However, refrain from trying to speak the language as your accent can be taken as offensive to locals.

It is also the custom of locals to greet guests with the flower lei. Naturally, you must always accept the flower as a sign of respect. Removing the lei in the presence of the person who gave it to you can be misconstrued as disrespectful.

If you’ve decided to rent a car in order to see the sights and you’re driving along the road, it’s better to let local drivers get ahead of you. This is because local drivers are extremely familiar with the way so they are likely to drive with more speed than you.
